Using Scraps - 2.5

Using Scraps - 2.5" Strips

We have already talked about using 2.5" squares, but you don't need to cut all of those leftover jelly roll scraps or binding pieces down into squares. Sometimes it is more useful to store them as longer strips.

These are all projects that use 2.5" strips of various lengths. Even though this means you will have to do a little bit of cutting before starting a project and it is always nice to have scraps cut and ready to go in advance, this gives you more options. I keep my 2.5" strips stored together so that I don't have to go searching for them in my scrap bins.

This is how I decide whether to cut my scrap into 2.5" squares or leave it as a strip: if it is a leftover binding strip or jelly roll piece that is longer than about 5", I will leave it as a strip so that I have more options in the future. If it is just a little bit longer than 2.5", I will go ahead and cut it down into a square. If I am cutting from a larger piece (leftovers from a FQ, jelly roll, yardage, etc.) I usually won't create 2.5" strips, I will just cut my scraps into squares.

I have made scrappy versions of all of these quilts except Debbie — that is going on my list!
