The Unruly Nature Diana Quilt
When I am designing new patterns, I like to start out with a rainbow of colors. Many times I will end up with a pattern that doesn't actually work with a rainbow, but it is a fun place to start. But with the Diana Quilt, I actually started with these Unruly Nature prints.

Even though I ended up making the rainbow version first (read more about that here) and then using it for the cover, I knew I wanted to make a version of the pattern with the fabrics that inspired it. This pattern is great for solids, but it is actually really fun for prints too!

The colors in this collection are SO GOOD! The mustard, orange, mauve, light blue . . . all of it. Some of the prints also have the most beautiful little bit of a metallic copper in them.
One thing I love about using prints in the pattern is how it lets you play with scale and texture. When I was decided which fabrics would go next to each other, I wanted to make sure to use prints that different in value (light vs. dark), scale (small vs. large), or color - or all of the above.
For this particular quilt, I used darker valued prints for the diamond shapes, but I have a version that I will be sharing next week where I did the opposite - they create a very different looking quilt.
The backing for this quilt is 108" wide speckled - it's such a great backing fabric because it goes with everything. The binding is one of the orange prints from the collection (Tendrills in Pecan). I love this print because it has a lot of movement.
Unruly Nature should be showing up in shops in January and you can find the Diana Quilt Pattern in my shop now!
