The April Quilt in Poolside Too

The April Quilt in Poolside Too

I love this collection so much. The tigers, the slightly funky color combinations, the blender prints — it’s all good and it was so perfect for the cover of the April Quilt Pattern. The collection is called Poolside Too, and it’s a collaborative Ruby Star Society collection. I love each of the designers individually, but I usually like their collaborative collections the most.

This one feels especially balanced — a mix of bold prints and quieter fabrics that all work together without feeling too coordinated.

Why It Works So Well for the April Quilt

This was such a fun collection to use for the April Quilt Pattern because of all of the color and movement within the prints. I love the variation in color and print. It was fun to create a quilt that was like a window into this fun world.

Using a Layer Cake

I used a layer cake for this version, which is my favorite way to make this quilt.

One of the things I like about using a layer cake here is that you can keep the squares in order as you cut and piece them. When you do that, the prints line up in a way that feels a little like looking through a window — you get these small glimpses of the larger print that carry across the quilt.

It’s subtle, but it adds a lot.

 The Quilting

This quilt was longarmed by Heidi at Piece & Joy Quilting Co. We picked the Boardwalk panto, which I have used at least a couple of times before. It's so much fun and it photographs really well.
