Kriss Cross Quilt
Today is my stop on the Modern Quilts Block by Block Book Tour! If you haven't already seen Emily's quilts, you should definitely check them out; her work is modern with just enough traditional mixed in to make them fresh, fun, and approachable. The book even more of that goodness all bound up together.
Originally I had planned to make a couple blocks and turn them into throw pillows, but I had the perfect amount of fabric to make 9 blocks so I couldn't help myself. I did make a little change from the pattern and used colored solids instead of background fabric to frame the blocks. These Alison Glass fabrics were screaming MORE COLOR!
Emily's book hits the right balance of patterns that easy enough for beginners, but that are a lot of fun for more experienced quilters. It has been flying off the shelves, so pick up a copy while you can.

The fabrics in this quilt are Road Trip by Alison Glass and are from the monthly subscription Culcita Box. If you would like to pick up this month's box, or subscribe to a monthly Culcita box delivery, check out the options on their website.
I decided to make a quilt using the Kriss Cross pattern, though I made a 9 block version (the book has a 12 block version). It was the perfect use for the Road Trip fabrics from the September Culcita Box.

For the backing fabric I used Carolyn Friedlander's wide crosshatch print because after all of the MORE COLOR on the front, I wanted something calm for the back. I stitched the binding down on the back of the quilt with my favorite big stitch method.
